Why survey lawns? |
|
Lawns are a much ignored habitat. Although they are literally on our doorstep, we tend to walk over them without a second thought. Lawns contain a rich flora of native and introduced plants. In some cases, they are a refuge for plants of short grassland, in other cases they are full of vigorous weeds. With this survey, I hope to determine which species are growing in lawns and what factors contribute to their biodiversity. Since the invention of the lawnmower in 1830, lawns have covered more and more of Britain. I hope to discover the conservation importance of lawns and encourage respect for the habitat we manage. |
