A Description of the Family Boraginaceae

Mostly herbaceous plants with leaves either alternate and simple, without stipules. Many species have rough hairy stems and leaves. The inflorescence is frequently a distinctively coiled stem, uncoiling as the flowers open. Botanically it is known as a scorpioid cyme. The flowers are bisexual and usually actinomorphic, with 5 petals, sepals and stamens.
