Record your find with the Botanical Society of the British Isles


Name: Use the latin name if you know it. If you have any doubts about the identification, put the reasons for your doubt in the notes.
Location name: Give the most specific location name available. If possible use the name given on Ordnance Survey maps.
Grid reference: An eight character grid reference is required (e.g. NT967183). If possible give the grid reference to the plant you found. If you do not know the exact grid reference for the plant give a grid reference to the site. This will help the recorder establish if this is a new record or a duplicate for this site.
Vice County: The boundaries of the Vice counties were laid out in the 19th century. They divide Britain and Ireland into roughly similarly sized areas whose boundaries will never change. If you don't know it you can look it up at Herbaria United
Date: Record the date you found the plant in the format day/month/century year (e.g. 12/08/2001).
finder: Enter the name of the person who found the plant. If you were working as part of a group enter the person who should be corresponded with. If there are other people who should be acknowledged put them into the notes.
e-mail address: Your e-mail address for correspondence.
Establishment: This field can not always be determined and in some cases is rather subjective. Use your judgment which category best describes the plant or leave it blank.
Quantity: How many plants did you find? If you do not know how many plants there were leave this field blank. You can write a verbal description of the abundance in the notes.
